3D Visualisation

There are many benefits that producing a 3D model of the reinforcing steel brings. Some of these are:

Identification of the more complex reinforcing areas

Building the model in 3D allows the detailer to understand where the areas of more complexity lie. These issues can then be discussed with the designers and alternative solutions suggested, if necessary. Often with loose bar fixing these problems are not identified until the steel is being fixed on site when it is too late to re-engineer a solution.

Clash detection

By laying the 3D reinforcing model on top of the 3D models for services and drainage, the potential for on-site clashes can be almost entirely eliminated, saving time, money and resource on site.

Simple checking process

Rather than the design engineer having to sift through pages of 2D reinforcing drawings to check that the correct steel has been detailed, he can manoeuvre around the 3D model checking all the reinforcing steel as it would be positioned on site. As the model displays the concrete outline, any areas of missing reinforcement or other anomalies are easily identified.

Construction walkthroughs with fixing team

The other benefit of a 3D model is that it can be used to walk the site fixing team through the reinforced concrete fixing and pouring plan. This way everyone is clear exactly what sequence the cages are to be fixed in, further reducing site delays and errors.
